the 'five minute friday' topic this week is 'roots'. which is so fitting given the day. november 1 is 'dia de los muertos', a holiday meant to remember loved ones who have passed on.
for me, it's been the women in my life that have left us for heaven that are on my mind given the holiday. i'd intended to make a pseudo-altar in traditional mexican fashion (my husband's maternal family is hispanic, so i do want to foster the culture for my children who share a part of it), so i've been looking through our treasured family photos all week in an attempt to gather them.
what a beautiful and painful week it's been. beautiful because my life is so much richer having had these souls grace my life. but painful because they're not with me anymore in the flesh. but thanks to the blessed hope we have in the Lord Jesus Christ, i know i'll be reunited with them again.
my mother, her mother, my daddy's mother, my husband's great-grandmother.
they are gone, but they are all with me.
their roots run deep in my heart.
everyone has a story to tell! write, friends; just do it! join up with lisa-jo baker and her 'five minute friday' blog party each friday night for a fun jump-start.

There is something so painfully beautiful in your words here. The way you honor. The way you bless. The way you long to connect your children to their heritage.
So lovely!
Joining you from Five Minute Friday today...
So glad you joined in! I enjoyed reading this first Five Minute Friday post. So many of us can relate to losing a loved one that provided such stability for us. But I love the Bible verse you included to remind us that our hope is in Christ Jesus.
Happy you shared this.
So touching! I didn't know about that holiday. That is fascinating!
So glad you linked up!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Melanie
